Weekly Update – March 11, 2018
SKILL STRIPES OF THE WEEK – ORANGE AND RED
On Monday and Tuesday, students will have a shot at earning their Orange Stripe:
Early Skillz – Hopping
Basic Skillz – Balance
Kids/Teens/Adults – Board Breaking
On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, students will have a shot at earning their Red Stripe:
Early Skillz – Blocking
Basic Skillz – Focus
Kids/Teens/Adults – Agility
All students in our kids or teen class are now eligible to earn their purple or rainbow stripe for their form, and their black stripe for one steps or for sparring in every class up to testing. Students will be tested on their form knowledge as a group at the beginning of forms practice, prior to any instruction. This will be the only time in class for the day they can earn their purple or rainbow stripe. Once students receive instruction or assistance with their form, they are not eligible to earn their stripe until the next class they attend. When the class moves onto one-steps or sparring, the same guidelines apply.
Students will be learning the following forms this testing cycle:
Basic Skillz – Chon-Ji
Beginners (White and Yellow Belts) – Ki-Bon
Intermediates (Orange – Sr. Purple Belts) – Won-Hyo
Advanced (Blue to Sr. Red Belts) – Hwa-Rang
Black belts are assigned forms according to their ranks:
1st degree Probationary and Recommended Black Belts: Gwan-Gae
1st degree Decided Black Belts: Po-Eun
1st degree Senior Black Belts: Gae-Baek
2nd degree Black Belts: Choon-Jang
2nd degree Decided Black Belts: Yu-Shin
2nd degree Senior Black Belts: Ul-Ji
All forms can be found on our student website, fortbendtaekwondo.com/videos. White, Yellow and Orange belts can also find videos of their one-steps here as well. Remember that these videos are meant to supplement in-class learning, not take the place of it.

TESTING REGISTRATION NOW OPEN
You can now register for the next belt rank testing taking place April 9, 10, and 11. All the info is below.
April Belt Rank Testing – What is it, and Eligibility
Student who wish to go to the next rank (color) belt must take part in a formal testing at Fort Bend TaeKwonDo. Students are tested on their knowledge and use of taekwondo and skills.
Early and Basic Skillz students are tested on all 6 skills they work through in classes. These students are given a score between 1 and 5 for each skill and must receive 15 points to pass testing.
Kids, Teens, and Adults are testing on their form, their one-steps and/or sparring, and for brown belts and higher ranks, board breaking. These students must perform their form correctly. They must also perform their one-steps correctly, and/or spar at an appropriate belt rank and age level. Brown belts and higher ranks must break every board required within 3 attempts with the correct technique. Consideration is given to students’ ages, special needs, flexibility, and rank.
Testings are held every 8 to 9 weeks. Students must have 6 stripes on their belt AND have a completed Testing Readiness Form signed by both their parents AND their school teacher (NOT Mrs. Chapman).
April Testing Days/Times
Testing days and times are set up by classes and/or CURRENT belt ranks (not the rank they are testing for).
Students are strongly encouraged to test on their testing time and date. However, we do offer a make-up testing on Wednesdays for any student NOT testing for the rank of black belt (kids, teens and adults). Students testing for black belts MUST test on their specific day and time.

Students are to wear full uniform to testing: jacket, pants, & belts. White t-shirts should be worn under jacket. All orange belts & higher must bring all gear to testing. Students & all spectators are expected to exhibit the tenets of TaeKwonDo during testing. Failure to do so will result in removal from the premises.
Students are also required to have the Testing Readiness Sheet completed by both their parents/guardians AND their school teacher (this is NOT Mrs. Chapman – this is their grade teacher in their public or private school). A copy of this form is attached to this e-mail and will be available at the school and in our closed Facebook group.
