Weekly Update – March 25, 2018
SKILL STRIPES OF THE WEEK
Since this is a 9-week testing cycle, we are able to work on a different stripe every day this week!
Monday – Green Stripe
Basic Skillz – Kicking
Kids and Teens – Kicks
Tuesday – Blue Stripe
Early Skillz – Punching
Basic Skillz – Teamwork
Kids and Teens – Technique
Wednesday – Orange Stripe
Basic Skillz – Balance
Kids and Teens – Intensity
Thursday – Red Stripe
Early Skillz – Blocking
Basic Skillz – Focus
Kids and Teens – Agility
Can’t make it to a class where you need a stripe? Next week will be our review week, where we “catch up” any students who have most of their stripes and are only missing one or two.
All students in our kids or teen class are now eligible to earn their purple or rainbow stripe for their form, and their black stripe for one steps or for sparring in every class up to testing. Students will be tested on their form knowledge as a group at the beginning of forms practice, prior to any instruction. This will be the only time in class for the day they can earn their purple or rainbow stripe. Once students receive instruction or assistance with their form, they are not eligible to earn their stripe until the next class they attend. When the class moves onto one-steps or sparring, the same guidelines apply.
Students will be learning the following forms this testing cycle:
Basic Skillz – Chon-Ji
Beginners (White and Yellow Belts) – Ki-Bon
Intermediates (Orange – Sr. Purple Belts) – Won-Hyo
Advanced (Blue to Sr. Red Belts) – Hwa-Rang
Black belts are assigned forms according to their ranks:
1st degree Probationary and Recommended Black Belts: Gwan-Gae
1st degree Decided Black Belts: Po-Eun
1st degree Senior Black Belts: Gae-Baek
2nd degree Black Belts: Choon-Jang
2nd degree Decided Black Belts: Yu-Shin
2nd degree Senior Black Belts: Ul-Ji
All forms can be found on our student website, fortbendtaekwondo.com/videos. White, Yellow and Orange belts can also find videos of their one-steps here as well. Remember that these videos are meant to supplement in-class learning, not take the place of it.
CLOSED FOR GOOD FRIDAY, MARCH 30
We will be closed for Good Friday, March 30 – so no classes this day. This is a change on the original calendar. Sorry for any inconvenience.
TESTING REGISTRATIONS DUE MARCH 30
All testing registrations and the testing readiness sheets are due March 30. With being closed this day, we prefer that you get everything turned in by March 29. If you wait until March 30, please be sure to register online for testing, and e-mail your testing readiness form to Mrs. Chapman at [email protected].
April Testing Days/Times
Testing days and times are set up by classes and/or CURRENT belt ranks (not the rank they are testing for).
Students are strongly encouraged to test on their testing time and date. However, we do offer a make-up testing on Wednesdays for any student NOT testing for the rank of black belt (kids, teens and adults). Students testing for black belts MUST test on their specific day and time.

Don’t forget this important info:
All students who plan to test MUST register. Registrations are due by March 30. No registrations will be accepted after March 30 without a special exception for unusual circumstances by Mrs. Chapman (i.e., needs that extra week to ensure testing readiness).
Students are to wear full uniform to testing: jacket, pants, & belts. White t-shirts should be worn under jacket. All orange belts & higher must bring all gear to testing. Students & all spectators are expected to exhibit the tenets of TaeKwonDo during testing. Failure to do so will result in removal from the premises.
Students are also required to have the Testing Readiness Sheet completed by both their parents/guardians AND their school teacher (this is NOT Mrs. Chapman – this is their grade teacher in their public or private school). A copy of this form is attached to this e-mail and will be available at the school and in our closed Facebook group.
How to Register:
Students can complete a registration form for each family at the front desk. Our preferred way is for you to register online here: https://uplevelpages.io/?i=D3&c={CONTACT-ID}
Students who have an inclusive membership (meaning your membership includes your testing fees) should add in the usual coupon code when registering online to avoid payment. If you don’t know this code, please let us know.
If you register online and you need to test at the make-up testing please be sure to add this option in at checkout.
