CELEBRATE STAR WARS DAY IN ALL CLASSES FRIDAY, MAY 3
We know how much students love Star Wars – and so we’ll be celebrating Star Wars Day in all classes on Friday, May 3!
Students will be allowed to wear Star Wars themed t-shirts ON THIS DAY ONLY (Friday, May 3). Students will still need to wear their uniform pants and belts to class.
We will have some special drills and games in each class to teach students the ways of the Jedi, too!
PREP CLINIC – SATURDAY, MAY 4, 10a
Our preparation clinic for our regional tournament takes place Saturday, May 4!
This is the perfect opportunity for taekwondo students to get some extra help on their form and sparring – and while it is geared to those going to the tournament, all students can benefit from this clinic!
This clinic takes place from 10-11a. Students will work on putting details into their form, sparring strategy, and tournament board breaking.
Cost is $35. You can sign up at the front desk or online here: https://sparkpages.io/?i=lCc
REGIONAL TOURNAMENT MAY 18 – SIGN UP NOW
The Taekwondo America Texas Spring Regional Tournament takes place Saturday, May 18 in Lewisville, Texas! All students are eligible to compete in any of our tournaments.
Students will compete against other students from the Texas region on their form and one-steps (na for Skillz students).
Taekwondo students can also compete in board breaking and open sparring. Taekwondo students ages 11 and up can complete in an open sparring competition, too.
The tournament will run from 9a to 2p and will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn/Lewisville Convention Center (785 TX-121, Lewisville).
Students only need to stay for their specific competition time which will be announced by Thursday, May 16.
Students wishing to compete must register ASAP so that we can teach you your tournament form. We teach forms in a rotational style; Taekwondo America requires tournament competitors to do a form assigned by belt rank.
Here are a few important deadlines for the tournament:
Registration is due no later than May 11 – but we STRONGLY encourage you to register NOW. Register online by completing our Tournament Registration Form. (https://sparkpages.io/forms/?frm=JS)
Tournament t-shirts are available for $20 pre-sale. Deadline to order is May 4.
You can stay at any hotel you’d like, but the Hilton Garden Inn is directly attached to the convention center. You can make reservations there at http://bit.ly/2CCdgoN
Our tournament prep clinic will be held Saturday, May 4 at 10a. If you competed in our in-school tournament in February, you get to attend this clinic for free. Registration for this clinic will open soon.
MOBILE APP TO UPDATE SOON TO ALLOW FOR HISTORY OF ALL MESSAGES
As you probably know, if you’re using our mobile app, you currently only see a push notification we send out and then don’t have access to that message again. Our app developers have informed us that they are working on an update which will correct this issue. Until its fixed, we will send out a push notification to let you know you have an e-mail which will then have all the details. We will send out text messages for our important reminders such as registration deadlines and changes to class schedules.
We do apologize for this issue – and we hope, just as much as you, that it will be resolved sooner or later.
If you still need to download our app, you can find a step-by-step slide show on our app here: http://bit.ly/MobileAppInstructions
WHAT’S THAT SMELLY SMELL THAT SMELLS SMELLY?
We’re so glad that the weather is warming up! However, with the warm weather, we always like to remind students and parents that having good hygiene is a courtesy to all.
If a student wears closed-toed shoes and socks to school, please be sure to wash your feet and wear different socks/shoes to taekwondo. Our noses will thank you for this.
Deodorant is your best friend. Please be sure to wear it so you can have other friends, too.
SCHOOL RULES AND POLICIES REMINDER
With the new testing cycle starting, this is a very good time for you to refresh yourself on our rules and policies.
We’d like to specifically point out the following policies:
Students are REQUIRED to wear their taekwondo pants AND either a Fort Bend/Taekwondo America t-shirt or their white Fort Bend Taekwondo jacket at the start of class. Orange belts and above are required to have their gear bag with them at the start of class.
Any student who does not have the required uniform will not be allowed out onto the floor for class, regardless of the reason.
Students will not be allowed out onto the floor if they are more than 10 minutes late to class, regardless of the reason.
Only students and instructors may be on the workout floor unless an instructor asks a parent/caregiver out onto the floor during classes.
Students who are having trouble focusing in class will be dismissed from class for the day.
This is only a partial list of our policies. For the full list, please stop by the front desk for a paper copy, or go online at http://bit.ly/FBTKDrules
REMINDER ON OUR MEMBERSHIP FREEZE POLICY
As the summer draws near, we know that many of our families leave the area for part or all of the summer. If you are one of these families, please take note of our membership freeze policy as outlined in your membership agreement:
“Ft. Bend Taekwondo (FBTKD) will allow training sessions to be made up that have been missed because of illness, accident, travel and emergencies for a minimum of one month and a maximum of three months. FBTKD management must be notified via completion of a Freeze Request Form as soon as reasonably possible, given the circumstances of the absence. FBTKD freezes time, not payments. Payments will continue on a monthly basis until the expiration of the membership. The unused portion of time will be made after the membership expiration.”
If you need to freeze your membership, please complete our online Membership Freeze Request Form. (https://sparkpages.io/forms/?frm=IS)
