SKILLS STRIPE FOR THE WEEK
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, students have a shot at earning their GREEN and BLUE stripes:
Skillz – Kicking/Control
Taekwondo – Kicks/Technique
Forms for this testing cycle
Students will need to memorize the following forms in order to test in August:
Skillz – Chon-Ji or White Belt One-Steps (students will work on learning Chon-Ji in stages appropriate to their belt rank or the white belt one-steps)
Taekwondo
White Belts – Ki-Bon
Yellow and Orange Belts – Dan-Gun
All intermediate students (Sr. Orange – Sr. Purple Belts) – Yul-Guk
All advanced students (Blue – Sr. Red Belts) – Choong-Moo
Black belts will learn the form assigned to their rank by Taekwondo America.
All forms and one-step videos can be found on our mobile app under curriculum.
HOW TKD STUDENTS EARN BLACK AND PURPLE/RAINBOW STRIPES: Our black and purple/rainbow stripes are our memorization stripes (only white, yellow, orange and sr. orange have to memorize one-steps for their black stripe, green belts and higher ranks spar). In order to earn these stripes, students must have their forms and one-steps committed to memory.
This means that students must be able to do their form at a rank-appropriate level without assistance or instruction in order to earn these stripes. In other words, white belts must be able to do the first half of Ki-Bon by themselves in order to earn their purple stripe, and all 14 moves of their form by themselves to earn their rainbow stripe. The same goes for knowing their one-steps.
The intent behind these stripes is to insure testing readiness. Students must be able to perform their entire form and one-steps at testing on their own.
TKD students have the opportunity to earn their black stripe daily from June 24 until the last day of classes before testing. They can earn their purple/rainbow stripes from June 26 until the last day of classes before testing.
We will test students in class daily for these stripes. Testing occurs BEFORE instruction. Once we start instruction on the forms and one-steps, students will have to wait until their next class to attempt to earn these stripes again. We do this because we want to be sure the material is committed to long-term memory.
If you have any questions on how these stripes work, please contact Mrs. Chapman.

PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOUR TKD SCHOOL
Since we’ve painted the viewing wall black in December, we’ve had an issue with people picking at the paint and peeling it off. This happened again during Thursday classes, only a week after repainting.
We’ve repainted. Several times. And frankly, it’s saddening to know that someone or several people continue to do damage to the school.
Please talk with your children, both whom are are students and whom are siblings, and ask them to find a better way to keep themselves occupied. And if they just can’t find a way, well, we’ve always got something they can clean. 😀
FRIENDLY HYGIENE REMINDER
With the temperature and humidity continuing to rise as the summer progresses, we wanted to remind y’all of a couple of things:
Please wash your feet and wear fresh shoes and socks to your classes. A couple of smelly feet are okay, but when there’s a lot of them, well, there’s a LOT of them.
Please wear your shoes into the school. You don’t want to bring what’s out in the parking lot onto our mats. Ewww.
Deodorant is your best friend. If you don’t wear it, you won’t have any other friends.
Gear needs to be wiped down occasionally with a Clorox wipe. Soak your mouthpiece in mouthwash. WASH YOUR ELBOW PADS (but don’t dry them in the dryer as they’ll shrink terribly). And boys need to wash their supporters, too.
PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO COVER UP ODOR WITH PERFUME OR BODY SPRAYS LIKE AXE. They DON’T work. Deodorant, and maybe even a shower if needed, do.
Thank you!
