Weekly Update for the week of September 16 – 20
SHORT WEEK OF CLASSES
We will only have classes Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday this week due to the Taekwondo America National Tournament, High Rank Testing, and Partner meetings taking place in Orlando, Florida.
THERE ARE NO CLASSES THURSDAY AND FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 19 & 20
SKILLS STRIPE FOR THE WEEK
This week students have a chance to earn a special, first-of-its-kind heart stripe!
All classes this week will focus on bully prevention. Students who are able to apply what is learned will earn a heart stripe.
This stripe IS NOT REQUIRED to test.
Taekwondo students can also earn their black and purple/rainbow stripes every day up until testing.
Our black and purple/rainbow stripes for students in the taekwondo program are based upon memorization of material and the use of their knowledge of that material.
The black stripe is earned when white, yellow, orange and senior orange students can perform, without assistance, all of their required one-steps. Students who are green belts and higher ranks earn this stripe for sparring at a rank-appropriate level.
The purple/rainbow stripes are a two-part stripe for taekwondo students. Students earn the purple stripe when they can perform, without any assistance, half of their form for the testing cycle. They earn their rainbow stripe when they can do the same through the entire form.
Once we introduce these stripes in each testing cycle, students have a chance to earn them every day from introduction until the last class before testing.
With our purple/rainbow stripe, we test students before forms instruction in class. We do this because we want students to have a firm grasp of the material so they’re ready to perform at testing. Once we begin instruction on forms, they cannot earn a stripe for that day. Additionally, if students are observed watching other students and/or instructors while performing their form without assistance, they will not be able to earn a stripe that day as well. This is all done to ensure students are ready for testing.
FORMS FOR THIS TESTING CYCLE –
Students NOT attending the TA Fall National Tournament in Orlando are assigned the following forms for this testing cycle:
Skillz – Chon-Ji
TKD White Belts – Ki-Bon
TKD Yellow/Orange Belts – Do-San
TKD Intermediate Belt Ranks – Do-San (yes, this is correct)
TKD Advanced Belt Ranks – Jun-Gun
TKD Black Belts – As assigned by Taekwondo America
COMPLETE OUR KINDNESS CHALLENGE FOR A CHANCE TO BE TREATED TO CREAMISTRY ICE CREAM BY MRS. CHAPMAN
Our focus in our anti-bully curriculum this week is to follow the Golden Rule – “treat others as if they are your friend – even when they don’t act like it”. It essentially means to show kindness to everyone. So, to that end, this week also includes a special kindness challenge!
The kindness challenge will run over a 3-day period – September 15, 16, and 17 and will have students focus on being kind to 3 specific groups of people:
September 15 – Siblings (parents for only children)
September 16 – classmates and teachers (TKD students for those who are homeschooled)
September 17 – People students don’t know well or at all
Students will fill in a challenge sheet as they work their way through each day of the challenge. The sheets provide them with suggestions on what to do each day or they can come up with their own act of kindness.
Students will turn in the completed sheets on Wednesday, September 18, either in-class or via e-mail/text messaging.
Mrs. Chapman will randomly select FIVE students to take to Creamistry Ice Cream, on her, on Sunday, September 22!
We’re excited to see just how much kindness our students can spread throughout our community!

All students must have 6 stripes on their belt to test. Students in our kids and teen/adult classes MUST have their rainbow stripe as one of these 6 stripes.
Students testing for black belts must test on testing day, and not either make-up testing. Students are to wear full formal uniform: jacket, pants, & belts. White t-shirts should be worn under jacket.
All orange belts & higher must bring all gear to testing.
Students & all spectators are expected to be exhibit the tenets of TaeKwonDo during testing. Failure to do so will result in removal from the premises. Students who arrive late forfeit their right to test.
Testings are divided by your CURRENT belt rank/age group – not what you’re testing for!
You will need to complete one form per student.
You can register online here: https://fortbendtkd.news/OctoberTestRegister
If you need to change the time of your testing, please be sure to contact us directly, and not re-do the form. Thanks!
