My daughter's experience with Taekwondo has been so much deeper than learning Taekwondo itself. Ms. Chapman's program has provided lessons in endurance, responsibility, courage and instructing others. I cannot say enough about the growth I have seen in my daughter in all of these areas. I highly recommend Taekwondo but more specifically recommend the Fort Bend Taekwondo program. Mallory Thornton

We have two boys at Ft Bend Taekwondo with Coach Carol currently and we all love it there. This is a very family oriented environment from the top down for both the children and the parents. Not only does Coach Carol teach Taekwondo but she teaches the students life lessons and helps them follow and live by the Taekwondo Tenets. our boys have been students for around three years now. It is amazing to see how much they have grown as young men because of Coach Carol and her coaching staff. Ft Bend Taekwondo is also not just about Taekwondo. Coach Carol is always looking for different events to put on or attend as a school for the students AND parents to grow in all ways in their lives. We love this school, Coach Carol and all her supporting staff and always recommend Ft Bend Taekwondo to anyone and everyone. Adam Richardson

My mom and dad wanted me to join Taekwondo, but I was reluctant too. I am sure glad that I listened to my parents and joined Fort Bend Taekwondo. From the moment I walked into Fort Bend Taekwondo, Mrs. Chapman and her staff made me feel comfortable and safe. They welcomed me in and I found myself wanting to learn all the kicks, forms and excercises they Had to teach me. Initially, I was scared and not very confident in myself or my abilities. I didn't believe I had what it takes to do Taekwondo. Mrs. Chapman quickly proved me wrong. With each new form she taught me and new kick I learned, I felt more confident in myself. Not only did I feel myself getting physically stronger, I felt my mind getting stronger too. My mind was becoming more clear and I could focus better. At each class Mrs. Chapman and her staff make learning fun. They are always there to offer help and encouragement. I find myself always wanting to do my best. Fort Bend Taekwondo is a great place to learn new things, build strength, increase confidence and build great friendships. I am so happy to be part of the Fort Bend Taekwondo family. Sincerely, Brianna Bacher

I absolutely love Fort Bend Taekwondo. The whole crew is amazing. The owner, Carol, is a rock star. Classes are exciting and fun. My son looks forward to class each time. He has gained self-confidence and it is so wonderful to see him feel proud of his accomplishments. This has really helped us, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about Carol and her crew. She takes the time to know each student and make them feel welcome. Our family <3's Fort Bend TaeKwonDo!!!!

Our youngest boy, Patrick, has been going there for 6 months now where he is now a orange belt. He is not sporty and I have been pleased how he has progressed. Initially he was pretty un-cordinated and I have watched him grow in his form and confidence. I was concerned that he would loose interest but the good news is he is still enthusiastic about going. He is making some new friends there.

It is not all work either where there is a fun side to the practices. Most practices end with a game of dodgeball with the ball being thrown by the instructors. Patrick was delighted with getting to be the last one on his birthday and speaking of birthdays, the kids get to break a board on their birthday. (Patrick has his proudly on display in his bedroom).

In addition, Carol runs the occasional Saturday play evening to give the parents a day off. Patrick has attended 2 - one a Nerf party, the other a Pokemon night- and he loved then both.

I am looking forward to the new building which is a bit further away just off the feeder (I live very near today) but it will offer improved parking.

Mrs. Chapman made our whole group feel comfortable as we tried out TaeKwonDo for the first time. I was impressed stepping foot in the door, a well-equipped, clean, organized studio that was ready and waiting for us! A huge thanks to Carol Chapman and Nora!

We love this place. We have a 5 year old who is pretty timid in large group settings. We went to 4 martial arts places in the Katy area. The minute we walked into FBT we knew we'd love it. Everyone was so informative and friendly and were so great with my son and put him right at ease from the minute he walked in. Now he has been a member for about 6 months. He doesn't complain about going, is motivated to practice at home and is totally motivated to win the weekly stripes on his belt. The two things I love the most about the lessons are the importance of discipline and the lessons. I feel like these days our kids have so many distractions and I love that in these lessons the teachers force the kids to focus on what they are doing and the instructions they are giving out. The other thing I really like is that in every class about 5-8 minutes is spent talking about important life skills, memory skills, determination, confidence and so on. Its more than just physical activity, its really a way of life.

Weekly Update June 24, 2018

Students will be working on the following skills and stripes this week:

Monday and Tuesday – Black Stripe

Early Skillz – Running

Basic Skillz – Fitness

Kids, Teens/Adults – Instinct – One-Steps or Sparring

Wednesday – Friday: Purple/Rainbow Stripe

Early Skillz – Crawling

Basic Skillz – Memory

Kids, Teens/Adults – Forms

Beginning Monday, students in our kids, teen and adult classes will have a shot at earning their black stripe daily up until the last class prior to testing. They will have a shot at earning their purple/rainbow stripe daily from this Wednesday up until the last class prior to testing.

Students will have to correctly perform their one-steps (white through sr. orange belts) without assistance and spar (green belts and higher ranks) at an appropriate rank level in order to earn their black stripe.

Students will have to perform half of their form to earn their purple stripe, and their entire form to earn their rainbow stripe. Students must be able to complete their form without assistance from other students and/or instructors, and perform it to an appropriate rank level, in order to earn these stripes. Each day in class, we will count students through their form to determine if they are eligible for these stripes. Once instruction begins, students cannot earn their stripe until the next time they come to class and can perform the form without assistance.

This testing cycle, students will be working on the following forms:

Basic Skillz – Chon-ji

Beginners (white and yellow belts): Ki-Bon

Intermediates (orange – sr. Purple belts): Dan-Gun

Advanced (Blue – Sr. Red belts): Jong- Gun

Black Belts

1st Degree Probationary and Recommended: Gwen-Gae

1st Decided: Poe-Eun

1st Senior: Gae-Baek

2nd Degree: Chong–Jang

2nd Decided:Yoo-Sin

2nd Senior: Ul-Ji

Videos of forms can be found on our student website, fortbendtaekwondo.com under forms. White, Yellow, Orange and Senior Orange Belts can also find videos of one steps on our website. Remember the videos are to supplement class instruction and not replace it.

Registration is now open for our in-school tournament that takes place Saturday, July 14.

For those of you not familiar with a taekwondo tournament, here’s how it works:

Students compete against others at their belt ranks and/or age for their form and one-steps or sparring. So, a 6-year-old while belt would not ever compete against a 17-year-old black belt. The larger the tournament, the smaller the age and belt rank differences there are. (Because of the nature of the in-school tournament, we expect that all white and yellow belts will compete against each other; all orange through sr. purple belts will compete against each other, and all blue through sr. red belts will compete against each other.)

We view tournaments as a great way to challenge students to get out of their comfort zone. Yes, we do award medals to first through third and/or fourth places, but the experience of pushing yourself, competing against others, and learning what you really can do when you set your mind to something, is the true reward for students who go to a tournament.

We hope to see many of our students compete at this event! And, with the Taekwondo America Fall National Tournament taking place in September in Dallas, our tournament will be a great way to get some competition practice in before the big tournament!

Early Skillz students have a special obstacle course competition at the in-school tournament! This cost is $20.

The in-school tournament’s regular competition price for Basic Skillz and all kids and teens/adults is $50. Students who attend our kids or teen/adult classes also have the option to enter our board breaking challenge for an additional $15.

Are you excited?!? You should be! A tournament is one of the best experiences for students! To register, please stop by the front desk and complete a tournament registration form.

If you have any questions, please be sure to let us know.

It’s time to register for the TX TA Summer Regional Camp for orange belts and higher ranks!

Here are the details:

TX TA Regional Summer Camp
July 20-22
Friday, 7/20 until Sunday, 7/22
Registration: $200 and includes a t-shirt, room/board, all of the workouts (plus usually a keepsake from a workout), dinner Friday, all 3 meals Saturday and breakfast on Sunday.

Our Regional Summer Camp is where all of the Taekwondo America schools in Texas come together once a year for an overnight camp in Coriscana, TX! It is open to all Orange belts and above who are old enough to spend the weekend away from home. (Parents are also welcome to pay the registration and come with us.)

Campers/students will be doing a variety of training including weapons, free sparring, forms, target pads, self defense, taekwondo games, board breaking, flexibility, etc.

Campers will also get to experience all the benefits of attending a camp: making new friends, exploring the world around them, and learning that “I can” is much more powerful than “I can’t”. In an environment created just for them, children learn real life skills, develop self-esteem, and gain a sense of independence and community. Whether children are playing, exploring nature, conquering new heights, or becoming part of a camp family, they are creating memories that will last a lifetime.

We only have a certain number of spots available in the dorms, so don’t delay – register ASAP! While the form does say you have until Saturday, July 7 to register, due to the school being closed July 4 – 6, you’ll need to register NO LATER THAN JULY 2.

Registration forms are available at the front desk.

Please note that we do rent a 15-passenger van to transport students to the camp. Students who need a spot in the van will split the cost of the van rental + gas. At this point, we can take 5 more people in the van. I don’t want that to be a limiting factor, though, so if we have more people signing up, we will figure out a way to transport y’all in the most economical way possible.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Due to the July 4 holiday, we will be altering our class schedule for the week of July 2 – 6:

July 2 and 3: Regular class schedule

July 4, 5, 6: NO CLASSES
